recently i've been doodling and sketching a lot more than before, mostly because i'm preparing to go to an art school (not the college level of studying art though, it's kind of a preparation to that if i want to continue studying later on), but i found that i rarely even make something good without references. i try of course but fail miserably. so after countless attempts of drawing something nice i turn to stock pics or whatever i can find. mind you, i only sketch in very basic scribbles based on these pics in photoshop and after i add my own ideas it looks nothing like the original image. but still, i feel kinda bad about it, i have so many ideas but very little of them actually come to life. also this is probably a lot more different to me in case of drawing on paper with the help of a live model - now i'm totally scared of that. ah well, maybe this school will help me improve.
actually, i'm writing this because i'm curious about other people's methods of drawing so feel free to comment everyone

"Why is it," Jonathan puzzled, "that the hardest thing in the world is to convince a bird he is free, and that he can prove it for himself if he'd just spend a little time practicing? Why should that be so hard?"
-Jonathan Livingston Seagull
